The Allandale vibe
Think of Allandale as the best of both worlds: You can enjoy quiet, tree-lined streets and a true sense of community. But quick access to major roads also eases your commute almost anywhere in greater Austin. While Allandale is a well-established neighborhood, buzzy restaurants and other hip, new businesses feel right at home, too.
the roots of Allandale
Like Crestview, Allandale is an Austin neighborhood that first started to flower in the mid-20th century. One of its central roads, Bullard Drive, is named after the Realtor who played a key role in developing the area.
Allandale real estate
Allandale homes are usually around 1,700 to 3,000 and sit on big lots.
Eat and Drink in the
Allandale Area
Our favorite stops for caffeine, conversation or telecommuting: Monkey Nest, Thunderbird and Pacha Organic Cafe.
One of our favorite neighborhood spots in Allandale is Epicerie. You’ll find us on the patio for both lunch and dinner (and those beignets!). You can even grab some gourmet groceries to go. The acclaimed restaurant Barley Swine also recently moved to the area, or you can opt for more casual choices like the Peached Tortilla and Chi’lantro. Bringing the kids? Hit Phil’s Ice House for burgers.
Get
Outside
Allandale residents get active at Beverly Sheffield Northwest District Park, a huge park that boasts amenities including pools and tennis courts. They can also explore the Shoal Creek Greenbelt.
Neighborhood
Landmarks
The Frisco Shop opened in 1953 and was one of the first Austin restaurants to integrate.
Built in the 1940s, the shopping center Allandale Village on Burnet Road is still a hub of the area today.
Fonda San Miguel has been a favorite special occasion spot for Austinites since 1975, because of both its interior Mexican food and its colorful design.
Where We Find
‘Our Austin’
With only a handful of tables, La Cocina de Consuelo is the real deal when it comes to Mexican food. Lisa says it’s the next best thing to eating at her grandma’s house.
