The Tarrytown vibe
Explore this prestigious Austin neighborhood and you’ll find quiet, meticulously maintained streets, mature landscaping and old shade trees. You might not guess you’re so close to downtown Austin. Residents take full advantage of Lake Austin and are proud of the many longtime landmarks that add character.
the roots of Tarrytown
Tarrytown was platted in 1934. Lake Austin, the neighborhood’s best-known feature, was created in 1939 by the construction of Tom Miller Dam.
Tarrytown real estate
Sizes in Tarrytown vary widely: 2-7 bedrooms, 1-8 baths and 950-10,000+ square feet. But architectural distinction is a common thread. There is much new construction here, given the proximity to town, the lake and the generous lot sizes.
Eat and Drink in the
Tarrytown Area
Fabi + Rosi brings seasonal, modern European dining to the neighborhood.
Juiceland is a hidden spot for a great smoothie or juice.
Grab an espresso at Caffe Medici in neighboring Clarksville.
Also near the neighborhood, you’ll find perfectly crafted cocktails and yummy bites at Jeffrey’s and Josephine House. They’re part of the same restaurant family, but deliver two totally different
experiences.
Get
Outside
Outdoor living defines this area. Joggers and cyclists have special lanes along Exposition Boulevard. We also love the trails — and the peacocks! — of Mayfield Park.
Reed Park has a pool, creek and nature trail. And Walsh Boat Landing gives you access to beautiful Lake Austin.
Neighborhood
Landmarks
Take a drive by Granger House, a midcentury modern architectural gem.
Howson Branch, Austin Public Library has been a community mainstay since it opened in 1960.
Austinites rallied to save Lions Municipal Golf Course, a neighborhood favorite since 1934.
Mozart’s Coffee Roasters is more about the setting than the coffee, but there are some food and drink options if you’re looking to take in the view. Mozart’s holiday light show is one of Austin’s favorite traditions.
Where We Find
‘Our Austin’
Many Austinites have celebrated weddings at Laguna Gloria. Today it’s one of the locations of the Contemporary Austin museum. You’ll be inspired by both the art and the beautiful grounds.
